This reminded me of a dish they serve at our local steakhouse!
This hearty and comforting dish features layers of creamy potatoes, savory sausage, and a rich, cheesy au gratin topping. It’s perfect for a cozy dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients:
| Ingredient | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Uncooked sausage | 1 1/2 pounds (680g) |
| Extra-virgin olive oil | 1 tablespoon |
| Yukon Gold potatoes | 4 pounds (1.8kg) |
| Kosher salt | 1 tablespoon (or to taste) |
| Freshly cracked black pepper | 2 teaspoons |
| Freshly grated nutmeg | 3/4 teaspoon |
| Heavy cream | 3 1/2 cups (840ml) |
Instructions:
- Preheat oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook sausage: In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium-high heat with 1 tablespoon of olive oil until browned.
- Prepare potatoes: Peel and slice the potatoes about 1/8 inch thick. Place them in a large bowl and season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- Layer ingredients: In a 9.5×11-inch baking dish, layer the potatoes and sausage, pressing down to create a level surface. Pour the heavy cream over the potatoes until they are almost covered.
- Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30-45 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
- Serve: Let the dish cool slightly before serving.
