Steve Harvey Gets Emotional on His Show After Stepson Shares Heartfelt Words
How often do people wish they had a life like a celebrity, one that seems flawless and filled with glamor? Many of us have felt that way, wondering why we aren’t the ones enjoying all the fame and success. What we often don’t see is the hard work behind the scenes. The truth is, many famous people didn’t become wealthy or successful overnight or because they were born into privilege. A huge number of the celebrities we admire had to work incredibly hard to get where they are today. Steve Harvey, the beloved comedian, actor, and TV host, is a perfect example of this.
Today, it looks like Harvey has it all—a hit talk show, a successful game show, and a loving family. However, his life wasn’t always so easy. He was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, by a father who was a coal miner and couldn’t give him much. Growing up, Steve held many different jobs, including working as a mailman, a carpet cleaner, and even a boxer. His journey to fame was long and filled with challenges.
From Homeless to Household Name
Eventually, Steve Harvey started getting stand-up comedy gigs. But instead of keeping the money for himself, he would send it to his ex-wife to support their children. This left him with very little, and at one point, he became homeless. This was a difficult time in his life, as he once told PEOPLE magazine: “One or two gigs fell through, and suddenly I was homeless… I had nowhere to go… It was so disheartening… A week is really the maximum you can do. This was three years!” For three years, Steve Harvey had to live out of his car, often taking showers at gas stations or at public swimming pool facilities just to stay clean.
His big break finally came in 1990 when he became a finalist in the “Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search.” This major opportunity opened many new doors for him. Soon after, he landed the role of host for the late-night series “Showtime at the Apollo,” which launched his career to new heights.
A Father’s Unconditional Love
Steve Harvey has been married three times and has four biological children from his first two marriages. When he married his third wife, Marjorie Bridges, he adopted her three children, which made him a father to seven. His children have always looked up to him as a role model and a great father. Recently, they got the chance to share exactly how much he means to them, and they did it live on his show.
His stepson, Jason, gave a touching and heartfelt message to his stepdad. He said: “You took my mother, but you gained a whole lot more with that. You gave me your last name, and that’s the unthinkable. My father, you know, he did what he could, but he wasn’t there. And you stepped in and you gave me that. If only you knew the true amount of love that I have for you… I need for you to know that now. It don’t get no better than you, Dad. You it.”
Jason’s emotional words brought tears to Steve Harvey’s eyes. He couldn’t hide his emotions as he heard how deeply his children loved and admired him. The audience was also moved, and many were brought to tears by the touching moment.
A Family’s Tribute
After the children shared their feelings, Harvey’s wife, Marjorie, also paid tribute to him. She said: “I appreciate the man that you are, the example that you are for our children. I appreciate how you love me, how you loved my children as though they were yours, how you treat my parents as though they were your parents—just everything.”
Steve was clearly overwhelmed by all the love. Holding back tears, he responded to his family: “I’ve got four full-time jobs for them. So that when I am done, I want you all to just have remembered that somebody cared more about you than himself. I will defend your honor until the day I die. I love you all—this is what it is for me. This is the greatest moment I’ve ever had. I’m very proud to be your father.”
This emotional and memorable moment showed everyone that no matter how successful someone becomes, the love and support of family is what truly matters. It’s a powerful reminder that hard work and perseverance can lead to a rich and fulfilling life, not just financially, but in the ways that count most.
