Messy-Chef Bread Casserole

This hearty, shareable baked delight is inspired by a classic cheeseburger. It features seasoned ground beef, melted cheese, crispy bacon, and tangy pickles, all rolled up inside soft French bread dough.


Loaded Cheeseburger Bread

Diced onion ½ cup

Pepper ¼ tsp
Refrigerated French bread dough 1 tube (11 oz)
Ketchup ⅓ cup
Mustard 3 tbsp
Cooked and crumbled bacon 6 slices
Dill pickle spears, chopped 2
American cheese, sliced 8 slices
Large egg, beaten 1
Sesame seeds 1 tbsp
Thousand Island dressing For serving

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat Oven
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Step 2: Cook the Beef
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until fully browned. Season with salt and pepper, then drain excess fat.

Step 3: Roll Out Dough
On a lightly floured surface, roll the French bread dough into a 12×18-inch rectangle.

Step 4: Add Condiments
Spread ketchup and mustard evenly over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border around the edges.

Step 5: Layer Fillings
Distribute the cooked beef over the condiments. Sprinkle with crumbled bacon and chopped pickles.

Step 6: Add Cheese
Layer the American cheese slices evenly on top of the fillings.

Step 7: Roll and Seal
Roll the dough from one long edge to the other, sealing the edges. Place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 8: Brush and Bake
Brush the top with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown.

Step 9: Cool and Serve
Let cool for 5 minutes, slice, and serve with Thousand Island dressing for dipping.
