Knapp, a driver’s education teacher from Hampshire, Illinois, appeared on the January 20 episode and made it all the way to the final puzzle. How Steve Knapp Built His Big Win

The episode opened with Sharisse Cohee of San Diego taking an early lead. After Stacy Robinson of Columbus, Ohio, missed a toss-up, Cohee gained control and later solved “Take It With a Grain of Salt,” pushing her total past $7,000.

Knapp did not start as the clear frontrunner. His opportunity came after the Mystery Round took a chaotic turn, with all three contestants landing on Bankrupt. That reset gave him room to get back into the game.

He solved the “Before & After” puzzle “Word of Wisdom Tooth,” adding $2,750 and giving himself momentum. The Prize Puzzle round then shifted the game again after Cohee lost control on the Express Train and Robinson also ran into trouble on the wheel.

With time remaining, Knapp gave the answer that was accepted on air: “Giving an autograph.” Host Ryan Seacrest immediately confirmed the solve, and Knapp celebrated on the studio floor.

“Was that your foxtrot?” Seacrest asked.

“Something like that,” Knapp replied.

The celebration grew when Seacrest opened the prize envelope and revealed that Knapp had won a new Nissan. That pushed his total to $65,800, a memorable result made even more fitting by the fact that Knapp teaches driver’s education.
